The Campbelltown Athletics Centre was built in 1999 as a training track for international teams prior to the 2000 Olympic Games.
It replaced a grass athletics track that was marked on the adjacent Campbelltown Stadium, which hosted regional Little Athletics competition.
The track hosted two editions of the Telstra A-series, in 2002 and 2003, when Athletics Australia decided not to host events at Sydney Olympic Park. The track also played host to the Little Athletics State Relays in 2008 and 2016, as well as the Athletics NSW Relays in 2019, to mark the venue’s 20th anniversary, and the 2022 edition of the event.
The track is managed by Campbelltown City Council.
The track is a Conipur SW surface and is a World Athletics Class 2 Certified Facility.
