The Les O’Brien Athletics Complex synthetic track surface was laid in 2015. The venue is managed by Albury City Council. The venue was opened in 1982 and originally called Alexandra Park. The venue was renamed in 2018 after the late Les O’Brien. O’Brien was a natural sportsman from the area and won two events in 1962 at the Stawell Gift. Read more…

The venue was opened as the Sydney International Athletics Centre on 12 March 1994 at the Australian Championships by Betty Cuthbert, who the grandstand is named after. ES Marks Athletics Field was originally named Sydney Athletics Field, with the track being constructed in 1906. It was renamed in the 1940s after former Lord Mayor of Sydney and leading athletics administrator, Ernest Samuel Marks. Hensley Athletics Field was the first modern all weather synthetic athletics track laid in Australia. The track was developed by Randwick Botany Harriers, who in 1965 took out a 21 year lease on the site of a former tip. The track was initially rubberised bitumen.
