    The Canberra Track Classic is the premier invitational high performance athletics meet held in the ACT.

    The meet is a World Athletics Continental Challenger meet which accrues Category D points for World Athletics Rankings.

    The meet is conducted by Athletics Australia.

    The Canberra Track Classic in various forms dates back to 1986 and has been known by a number of names throughout its history as one of the premier athletics event of the domestic season. These include: Seiko AIS Invitational, AIS Invitational, AIS Drug Offensive, Twilight Invitational, AIS Sugar Games, Mars Challenge, Optus Grand Prix Canberra, Telstra A-Series Canberra, Australia Cup and Summer of Aths Grand Prix.

    Almost all of the current AIS Track Records have been set at this meet.

    The current naming rights sponsor is Chemist Warehouse.

      AIS Track and Field Centre

      The AIS Track and Field Centre is Canberra’s main athletics venue. The venue was originally constructed in 1985 as the warm up venue for the IAAF World Cup Athletics meet, which was held at the adjacent Bruce Stadium. The track is part of the Australian Institute of Sport, which was opened in 1981 as a high performance sport training centre. Read more…

    The NSW Open Championships date back to 1888 and are the oldest athletics championship event in Australia. Women’s state championshis were first held in 1926, and then regularly from 1932 under the auspices of the NSW Women’s Athletics Association.     The Victorian Track & Field Championships have been held since 1891. The meet has incorporated both male and female genders since 1983. Prior to this time, separate men’s and women’s championships were conducted.
