The Albie Thomas Mile was established in 2014 and named after the late Albie Thomas, who was a world record holder in the 2-miles and 3-miles in the 1950s and the first person to run a sub-four minute mile in NSW.
The meet has incorporated the Australian Mile Championships and is conducted by Bankstown Sports Athletics Club, with the assistance of Athletics NSW. The 2023/24 meet was originally scheduled to take place in the event’s traditional December time slot, but was rescheduled to March 2024. The event 2025 event will be held in February, giving it more prominence within the Athletics Australia domestic season calendar.
The race records are held by Jordan Gusman (3:57.29, 2017) and Abbey Caldwell (4:30.50, 2024)
