The Adelaide Invitational is a World Athletics Continental Tour – Challenger meet accrues Category D ranking points for World Athletics Rankings. Women’s state championshis were first held in 1926, and then regularly from 1932 under the auspices of the NSW Women’s Athletics Association. The Griffith University Athletics Track is located on the Gold Coast. The venue was opened in 1998, with the Gold Coast City Council leasing the land from Griffith University.
