ES Marks Athletics Field was originally named Sydney Athletics Field, with the track being constructed in 1906. It was renamed in the 1940s after former Lord Mayor of Sydney and leading athletics administrator, Ernest Samuel Marks. The Victorian 5000m Championships feature graded races that culiminate in the Victorian titles for the distance. The event has been held separately as a standalone event to the Victorian Championships since 2007. Venues have included the former Olympic Park, Lakeside Stadium and Hagenauer Reserve, Box Hill. The Zatopek:10 is an annual high performance meet in Melbourne, which features elite 10,000m races. The 10,000m races has traditionally incorporated the Australian Championship for the distance.
